Broward Children's Center and its affiliates specialize in helping infants, children, and young adults with special health care needs. Founded in 1971, our nonprofit facilities in Pompano Beach, Fla., offer a range of health, wellness, education, recreation, therapeutic, daily living and advocacy services. During more than three decades of service thousands of children and their families have benefited from the Center's programs.Broward Children's Center provides a home to some of the most technologically-dependent children in the country and addresses the educational, social and medical needs of both typically developing and special needs children. The needs of these children have led the Center to pioneer the development of community-based residential facilities and school programming for children who are medically fragile and/or developmentally delayed.
When late entertainer Danny Thomas opened the doors to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1962, he was not just changing the lives of children who would walk through its doors—he was changing lives across the world. When St. Jude completed its $1 billion, five-year expansion in 2005, it bolstered the hospital's efforts to find cures for the catastrophic diseases of childhood. The growth more than doubled the size of the hospital’s original campus. The expansion included the Children's GMP, LLC—the nation's only pediatric research center on-site facility for production of highly specialized treatments and vaccines—an expanded Department of Immunology and more. Now with the addition of the Chili’s Care Center, a larger, rejuvenated Kay Kafe cafeteria for employees and patients, and renovations to the medicine room and rehabilitation areas, the hospital is more poised than ever to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.
When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, the day-to-day joys of childhood take a back seat to the rigors of treatment and hospitalization. For more than 25 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses and life-altering injuries by providing entertainment, education and family activities that help them cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness. We understand what families go through when a child is sick, and how important it is to find relief from constant worry and isolation. Our programs have been proven to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families with others facing similar challenges so that no one feels alone.
Unlike any other charity, Starlight offers a comprehensive menu of outpatient, hospital-based and Web offerings that enable us to provide ongoing support for children and families — from diagnosis through the entire course of medical treatment.

The Broward Sheriff’s Advisory Council, Inc. (B.S.A.C.) is a non-profit 501 (C)(3) Corporation founded in 1975 by then Sheriff Nick Navarro and is funded by donation from its members. The B.S.A.C. members are men and women who are dedicated to supporting all of the law enforcement community of Broward County, not just the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The B.S.A.C. mission is to provide financial assistance to the families of officers killed or disabled in the line of duty. In addition, they also help develop educational programs to assist and support the State of Florida in drug abuse prevention and crime prevention.
The financial aid given by the B.S.A.C. takes on several forms, depending on the needs of the surviving family. In many cases, the need is for immediate help to pay expenses such as rent, mortgage, food, utilities, and other household expenses that require a fast response. That is where the BSAC shines. We can step in immediately with director approval and help in any way needed.
In other cases, funds are provided for college tuition through the Florida Prepaid Scholarship Program. In others, B.S.A.C. funds provided immediate cash for room and board of the student.
In our 35 plus years, the B.S.A.C. has provided over $100,000 in scholarships to the surviving children of fallen Officers. Our goal in the greater sense is to provide help and support to all citizens of Broward Country.
As individual advisory deputies, we are each personally dedicated to this goal.
