History of Las Olas Boulevard: The first accessible road to the beach, Las Olas is Spanish for ‘the waves’. Broward County was officiated on October 1st, 1915 and named for Florida’s governor from 1905-1909-Napoleon Bonaparte Broward. The beach has always been a popular destination both to Fort Lauderdale residents and tourists. The bridge of Las Olas was constructed to meet these needs in 1917. While other passages and bridges have been created as the city has grown, Las Olas has remained an important cultural center in Southern Florida. Las Olas is home to prestigious residential homes, world-class shopping, and the oldest hotel in Fort Lauderdale-The Riverside Hotel, founded by brothers Preston and John Wells in 1936.

School District: Broward County Schools
